About QUA

The Quebec Ukrainian Archives (QUA) is a community initiative, affiliated with Ukrainian Canadian Congress – Quebec Provincial Council (UCC-QPC).

Founded in January 2026, QUA was established to safeguard the archival heritage of the Ukrainian community in Quebec through the responsible collection and preservation of community records. QUA is committed to preserving and promoting the history, heritage, and contemporary life of the community by providing a centralized physical and digital archive grounded in community stewardship.

The project goals are:

• Preserve Ukrainian Heritage in Quebec: Safeguard historical and contemporary records of Ukrainian individuals and organizations in Quebec from loss, damage, or neglect through communal archival stewardship.

• Establish a Centralized Community Archive: Create and maintain a trusted physical and digital repository where archival materials can be organized, preserved, and administered according to recognized archival standards.

• Improve Access to Archival Materials: Facilitate responsible access to archival records for community members, researchers, and the broader public through digitization, exhibitions, and an online portal.

• Support Sustainable Community Archiving Practices: Promote long-term sustainability of Ukrainian heritage preservation by sharing best practices with active Ukrainian organizations in Quebec.

By protecting collective memory and fostering responsible access, the QUA aims to strengthen cultural continuity and public understanding of Ukrainian history and culture and helps ensure that Quebec’s Ukrainian heritage continues to inform, inspire, and connect communities locally and beyond.
